Lee Eun-Young
Abstract
Conventional complete dentures have been used for fully edentulous patients as a first treatment option although they have limitation in function such as mastication and pronunciation. Recently, Implant retained overdentures could help improvement of denture function by enhancing retention and stability of the dentures, especially for the patients who have severely atrophied alveolar ridges. In this case of a 73-years-old female patient with severely atrophic mandibular ridges who had been using unstable upper and lower complete denture was treated with conventional complete denture in the maxilla and implant retained overdenture using Locator¢ç attachment in the mandible, following recommendations from the
2002 McGill Consensus. The definitive dentures showed enhanced retention and stability and the patient was satisfied with them in esthetic and functional aspects.
